We acknowledge that the land on which we are gathered here in Miles City, MT, is the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary land of the Crow (Apsáalooke) and Northern Cheyenne (Notameohmésêhese) Nations, as well as a historical trade and hunting corridor for neighboring Plains tribes, including the Lakota and Assiniboine. We honor the Indigenous peoples who have lived in the Yellowstone and Tongue River valleys for generations, caring for this land, and whose presence remains vital to this region today. We commit to honoring this land and learning from the enduring knowledge, history, and sovereign contributions of Montana’s Tribal Nations.
